Upgrade Opera in P835

Asus P835 has Opera Mobile 9 built-in. There is a soft-button to activate it, and it is hard-coded. Asus doesn't provided a way to change the button. That Opera Mobile 9 has no upgrade function neither.

Opera Mobile 10 has been released and is much better. It has Opera Turbo which use Opera's special proxy server to compress the webpage before sending to the handset, so that surfing thru a slow connection, such as GPRS, is faster. It also has Opera Link that sync the bookmarks and some other settings to the Opera's cloud. The UI is also improved.

The soft button just run the OperaL.exe in the Windows folder. To hack it, we need a small program VJBrisk.

Download Opera Mobile 10 (of course it is free) and install it.

Download VJBrisk (and is also free) and install it.

Find the VJBrisk.exe in the Program folder. Make a copy and rename to OperaL.exe. Copy to the Windows folder replacing the original.

Copy the shortcut of Opera Mobile 10 to Windows folder and rename it to OperaLLNK.lnk.

Then it is finished.

This method can be used to hack any hard-coded key on WM devices.

Some feel the Anytime Launcher on several Asus devices annoying and thus hack the shlaunch.exe in the Windows folder. I think this can be kept though.
